An occasional chair is a single accent chair that isn't part of a matching lounge suite. It adds an extra seat and a bit of colour or texture wherever you need it. Right now we have two occasional chairs online: the Helen at $499 and the Willys at $599. Ask in store about other accent chairs we have on the floor. You can see them at our Morrinsville showroom.
What is the difference between an occasional chair and an armchair?
There's a lot of overlap. An armchair is usually chosen for comfort and often matches a sofa. An occasional chair is chosen more for looks and flexibility. It's used "occasionally", so it can be a bit smaller, lighter to move and a different fabric from your lounge. Many people use one as a feature piece. For bigger, more padded chairs, see our armchairs.
Where do occasional chairs work best?
- A corner of the lounge that feels empty
- Beside a bed or at the end of a bedroom, for dressing or reading
- An entrance or hallway, as a spot to put on shoes
- Next to a window with a lamp, as a reading nook
- A second seat in a home office
How do I pick an accent chair that goes with my lounge?
- Don't match exactly. Pick one colour from the room (cushions, a rug, artwork) and look for a chair in that tone.
- Mind the scale. A small chair beside a big corner lounge can look lost, and a big chair can crowd a small room.
- Check seat height. It should be close to your sofa's seat height if they sit side by side.
- Sit in it. Photos can't tell you how deep or firm a seat is.
