Slumberzone vs Dreamland vs Sleepmaker: Which Mattress Brand Is Best in NZ?

Slumberzone vs Dreamland vs Sleepmaker: Which Mattress Brand Is Best in NZ?

By the Cambridge Beds & Furniture team, 199 Thames Street, Morrinsville. Prices checked against our live store on 5 November 2026.

Quick answer: There is no single "best" mattress brand in New Zealand. The right one depends on the feel you like and what you want to spend. Slumberzone has the widest range at our Morrinsville showroom and the deepest discounts right now, with many queen sets 50% to 60% off. Sleepmaker's Boston and Brighton beds use Dunlop foams made in New Zealand. Dreamland's Lincoln range gives you zoned pocket springs at a mid price, and its Aurora is currently half price. SleepTime is our budget range, with a queen mattress and base from $699.

Most people who ask us "which brand is best?" have already done some homework. They have read a few reviews, seen a few names on Facebook Marketplace, and now want a straight comparison. This guide gives you that, using the beds we actually stock and the prices on our site today. Every brand below is on the floor in our Morrinsville showroom, so you can lie on all four in one visit.

What is Slumberzone known for?

Slumberzone is the biggest range in our Slumberzone mattress collection, and it covers everything from a firm everyday bed to handcrafted luxury models. Almost every model uses individually wrapped pocket springs split into zones, which means the springs under your hips work separately from the springs under your shoulders. If you share a bed, that also cuts down on feeling your partner roll over.

Slumberzone is also where the largest discounts sit at the moment. A few worth knowing about:

  • Bliss Pro Gel: 5 zone pocket springs with an Orthocool gel foam layer that helps the surface sleep cooler. Queen mattress and base $1,899, down from $4,220.
  • Posture Flex Pro Medium: a euro top finished with Purolax latex foam over 5 zone springs. Queen set $2,199, down from $5,498, which is 60% off.
  • Dzire: a genuinely firm bed with 3 zone Posture Pro springs and extra firm high-density foam. Queen set $1,899, down from $3,798.
  • Spine Serene Medium: more than 1,500 Coppertine mini pocket springs in 7 zones, with Hi-Mate latex and Ortho Gel memory foam. Queen set $3,439, down from $8,598.

If you want the lowest-priced Slumberzone set, the Bliss Pro queen mattress and base is $1,699 (was $3,776).

Is Dreamland a New Zealand brand?

Yes. Dreamland describes itself as a New Zealand sleep brand, and its bases are sized for standard NZ beds. We stock two of its mattress lines.

The Lincoln range comes in three feels on the same 5 zone pocket spring system. The Lincoln Firm adds extra springs for a very firm surface. The Lincoln Plush has a 12 cm pillow top for people who like to sink in a little. A queen Lincoln Firm mattress and base is $1,349 (was $1,686) and the Lincoln Plush queen set is $1,599 (was $1,999).

The Dreamland Aurora is the stronger deal right now. It has a 7 zone pocket spring system, gel-infused memory foam quilting and edge-to-edge support, with a medium-soft feel. The queen set is $1,825, half its regular $3,650. The king set is $2,100 (was $4,200).

Is Sleepmaker made in New Zealand?

The Sleepmaker beds we sell are built with Dunlop foams crafted in New Zealand, and the Boston Medium is listed as NZ made with a 5-year warranty. They all use a classic pocket spring encased in foam, which stops the edges from collapsing and stops two sleepers rolling together in the middle.

Browse the full Sleepmaker range or start with these:

  • Boston Medium: queen mattress and base $1,599 (was $3,198). Includes Ultra-Fresh allergy control.
  • Brighton Firm: queen set $1,899 (was $3,798) for people who prefer a firmer bed.
  • Boston Deluxe Medium: queen set $2,299 (was $4,598). Also available in long single and long double, which tall sleepers ask us about often.

Where does SleepTime fit?

SleepTime is the range we point people to when the budget is fixed. The Kyro Bonnell uses interconnected Bonnell springs, which are firm and durable but move together more than pocket springs do. A queen mattress and base is $699. For a little more, the SleepTime Pocket Pillowtop switches to individually wrapped pocket springs with a pillow top, at $937 for a queen set (was $1,249).

At the top of the range, the SleepTime Ultra has 7 zone pocket springs that are 22 cm high. A queen set is $1,399, and a super king set is $1,799.

Which brand should you choose for the way you sleep?

Brand matters less than feel. A side sleeper on a bed that is too firm will wake up sore whatever name is on the label. Use this as a starting point, then test in store:

If you...

Start with

Sleep on your side

Lincoln Plush, Aurora, Bliss Pro Plush

Sleep on your back

Boston Medium, SleepTime Medium, Posture Flex Firm (listed as medium firm)

Like a very firm bed

Dzire, Lincoln Firm, Brighton Firm, Comfort Plus

Sleep hot

Bliss Pro Gel, Comfort Zone (gel memory foam with bamboo-enriched fabric)

Share a bed with a restless partner

Any zoned pocket spring model rather than Bonnell

Are these sale prices worth buying now?

The "was" price on each product is the regular price listed on our site, and the deepest cuts are on Slumberzone and Sleepmaker sets, many at 50% or more off. Two things are worth knowing before you decide.

First, prices change. The figures in this article were correct on 5 November 2026, so check the product page or call us before you come in. Second, our 60-Night Comfort Guarantee does not cover clearance items, floor models or heavily discounted products. If you are unsure about a feel, ask us which mattresses qualify, or spend ten minutes on each one in the showroom first. Our 10-minute mattress testing checklist helps with that.

If you are planning around the end-of-year sales, our Black Friday and Christmas bed deals guide covers timing. You can also see everything on special in our bed and furniture sale.
