What Does a Bed or Furniture Warranty Actually Cover in NZ?

A warranty is a promise that a product will hold up for a set time. When you buy from a garage sale or a private listing, that promise usually isn't there. When you buy from a store, it is. But not all warranties are the same, so it helps to know what they typically cover.

What is a manufacturer warranty?

It is the maker's promise to repair or replace a product that fails because of a defect in materials or workmanship. Different parts often have different lengths of cover. As an example, one recliner suite in our range, the Kingswood Recliner 3+1+1, lists 5 years on the frame, 3 years on foam and seating, 3 years on the recliner mechanism and 1 year on the fabric. Check the product page for the exact terms on any item.

What does a warranty usually cover?

  • Frame breakage or structural failure
  • Springs or foam that fail early
  • Faulty mechanisms, such as recliners or adjustable bases
  • Manufacturing faults in stitching or fabric

What doesn't a warranty cover?

  • Normal wear and tear
  • Stains, burns, tears and pet or child damage
  • Damage from misuse or overloading
  • Using the wrong base or frame with a mattress

Looking after your product properly helps a claim. See our FAQ page for common questions.

How do I make a claim?

  1. Keep your receipt or order confirmation.
  2. Take clear photos of the fault.
  3. Contact the store you bought from.
  4. Lodge a service call with your details.

The full terms are on our warranty information page.

Is a warranty the same as your legal rights?

No. In NZ, buying from a business also gives you automatic legal guarantees on top of any warranty. We explain them in your rights when buying furniture in NZ.

Why does a warranty matter when comparing prices?

A warranty is part of the price. A bed with no cover and a slightly lower tag may cost more if it fails. If the upfront cost is what is pushing you towards a cheaper option, our finance options let you spread the payments with Afterpay, GEM Visa, Finance Now or Q Mastercard. Frequently asked questions

Does a private sale come with a warranty?

Usually not. A private seller isn't a business and often has no warranty to pass on, unless the manufacturer's warranty can be transferred.

How long is a mattress or furniture warranty?

It depends on the product and the part. Frames, foam, mechanisms and fabric often have different lengths, so check the product page.

What voids a furniture warranty?

Misuse, accidental damage, stains, using the wrong base, or unapproved repairs can all affect a claim.

Do I need my receipt to claim?

Yes. Keep your receipt or order confirmation, as it is proof of purchase.
